Dan Randolph
Executive Director
Dan Randolph rejoined San Juan Citizens Alliance in 2011. Dan first worked for SJCA as Community Organizer from 1995 - 1997, and again as Energy Issues Organizer from 2003 - 2006. He served on the SJCA Board of Directors from 1998 - 2003. In addition he was Executive Director of Great Basin Resource Watch, in Reno Nevada, for two and a half years, and Southwest Circuit Rider for EARTHWORKS, for five years. Dan served as President of the Oil and Gas Accountability Project's Board of Directors from 1999 until 2005, when OGAP became a project of EARTHWORKS. He has lived in western Colorado most of his life, and has extensive experience of the region. He has a Bachelors Degree in Biology from the University of Colorado, Boulder, and a Master of Science Degree in Soils from Washington State University.
   
 
Jimbo Buickerood

Jimbo Buickerood joined SJCA in 2007 with extensive experience running outdoor education programs, including 20 years with Colorado Outward Bound as an instructor and program director. Jimbo brings vast first-hand knowledge of the landscapes of the San Juans and superb skills at working with people. He holds a Bachelor's Degree (1975) in Outdoor Education and a Master's Degree in Education (1993), both from Prescott College.
 
Amber Kelley
Southern Dolores River Organizer

Amber joined staff in 2003 to spearhead our grassroots outreach concerning the Canyons of the Ancients National Monument and San Juan National Forest management plans. Amber assumed the position of Dolores River Campaign coordinator in 2007. Amber grew up on a farm in McElmo Canyon, literally on the edge of Canyons of the Ancients. Amber’s degree in sociology from Fort Lewis College included a four-month internship with the Alliance where she crafted our citizens’ vision for future management of Canyons of the Ancients.
 
Lee-Ann Hill
Dolores River Campaign Coordinator

Lee-Ann Hill was born and raised in Colorado and has worked throughout the Western Slope and Utah during her career in conservation, with a focus on the wild lands of the Colorado Plateau. She began her work on the Dolores River in 2004 as a Public Lands Organizer for Colorado Environmental Coalition before pursuing her MA in Environmental Studies with an emphasis on watershed sustainability through Prescott College. She also has a BA in Mass Communications, and an AA in Photography and Outdoor Leadership. She is passionate about the Dolores River basin and the unique ecology that is found throughout its watershed.

Marybeth joined the Alliance in 2010.   She grew up in the Boston, Massachusetts, area and spent several years living on Cape Cod where she was involved in resort management.    Before moving to Durango in the fall of 2010, she lived in the Sunday River Ski area in Western Maine where she and her husband owned and operated a property management business.  Marybeth loves animals and has an education in dog behavior and positive reinforcement training.   She is passionate about helping to strengthen the bond between dogs and people.

 
Mike Eisenfeld

Mike joined SJCA in 2006 following ten years as an environmental consultant in the Four Corners region. He specializes in the National Environmental Policy Act, Federal Land Policy & Management Act, and Endangered Species Act compliance. Mike has a B.A. from Bates College and a M.A. in Environmental Policy and Management from the University of Denver.
 
Nicole Mosher

Nicole Mosher joined the Alliance in 2010. She has lived in Southwest Colorado for more than 16 years and is a graduate of Fort Lewis College where she received B.A. degrees in both sociology and Spanish. Her bicultural heritage has allowed her great insight and experience with Latino culture and people. Her passion for social justice extends throughout her personal interests and talents. For more than ten years, Nicole has been an activist and advocate for the under served youth and Latino populations of our Southwest communities.
 
Josh Joswick
Staff Organizer, Colorado Energy Issues

Josh brings nearly 20 years of experience in dealing with the oil and gas industry to the position of Oil and Gas Issues Organizer. He served three terms as a La Plata County Commissioner from January 1993 to January 2005; in that capacity, locally he worked to see that La Plata County’s oil and gas land use regulations were not only enforced but expanded to protect surface owners’ rights. Josh has dealt with numerous agencies, and legislative and Congressional elected officials, to uphold the rights of local governments to exercise their land use authority as it pertained to oil and gas development, and to assert the right of local government to address with the environmental impacts of oil and gas development.
 
Wendy McDermott
River Program Director

Wendy brings a strong dedication to the conservation and protection of watersheds and wildlands to SJCA. Her previous work experience includes Executive Director of High Country Citizens’ Alliance (HCCA) in Crested Butte, Colorado from 2003-2009, and she was HCCA’s Outreach and Administrative Director from 2001-2003. Prior to HCCA, Wendy worked as a river instructor for the Colorado Outward Bound School. In 2008, she spent three months in Chile’s Patagonia volunteering with the Patagonia Sin Represas (Without Dams) Campaign and in the future Patagonia National Park. Wendy is nearing completion of a M.S. in Resource Management from Central Washington University and holds a B.A. in Biology from Western State College of Colorado. She joined SJCA in Fall 2011.
   
 

  Chuck McAfee, President
Mr. McAfee graduated from high school in Cortez in 1958 and went on to the University of Colorado and Stanford University to become an electrical engineer. He retired after 32 years with Hewlett-Packard and moved back to the home place with his wife MB in 1998. Chuck currently serves on the Board of Southwest Health System that operates the local hospital; the Citizens Advisory Committee for the Canyons of the Ancients National Monument; a co-founder and member of the steering committee for the Summit Leadership Programs that are designed to nurture community leaders and volunteerism; an alum of Leadership Montezuma; an advisor to the Board of the Community Radio Project (KSJD); and a member of the Southwest Regional Council of the Colorado Springs-based El Pomar Foundation.
 
  Gwen Lachelt, Vice-President/Secretary
Ms. Lachelt is Executive Director of the Oil and Gas Accountability Project, and previously worked for the Alliance as E.D. until 2001. She has a wealth of grassroots organizing experience with oil and gas issues specifically. Gwen has a B.S. in Political Science from Fort Lewis College.
 
  Paul Bendt, Treasurer
Mr. Bendt owns the Computer Mapping Company and provides GIS services to local governments and businesses across the country. He is active in the Alliance’s Public Lands Task Force. Paul is a pilot and an avid outdoorsman. He has a B.S. from MIT and a PhD in Physics from the Univ. of Colorado.
 
  Kent Ford, At-Large
Mr. Ford is the owner of Performance Videos and technical producer of fourteen instructional books and videos on whitewater paddling. He is a world champion whitewater paddler. Kent holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Carnegie-Mellon University.
 
  Gary Skiba, At-Large
Mr. Skiba is a Senior Wildlife Conservation Biologist with Colorado Division of Wildlife, where he has worked for over 20 years. Throughout his professional career, Gary has spearheaded biodiversity, ecosystem management, and protection of wildlife species that are threatened, endangered or special status. Gary has a B.S. in wildlife management from the University of New Hampshire, and a M.S. in wildlife biology from Colorado State University.
 

Jack Scott, At-Large
Mr. Scott operates a ranch at Hesperus, Colorado, a farm at Bloomfield, New Mexico and various rental properties.  He lives in Aztec, NM and served as an Aztec City Commissioner for eight years.  He has a B.S. in Biology from Fort Lewis College in Durango, CO.

 
 

DeeDee deHaro-Brown, At-Large
Ms. Brown was formerly Executive Director of Durango Latino Education Coalition (DLEC), responsible for the overall management of DLEC and all programs. Her qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in education, graduate work in bilingual and bicultural studies, and certification in English as a Second Language, grades K-12.  She has experience working in family literacy programs, youth assets programs, community partnerships, and advocating for minority and “at risk” students for 20 years.  DeeDee has been involved in civil rights and social justice work for over 40 years.

 
  Anne Markward, At-Large
Ms. Markward has lived mostly in La Plata County since 1983, though she has just recently returned from three years in New Zealand where she earned a master’s degree in sustainable tourism.  Her professional focus has been on tourism marketing – working with everyone from large national park concessioners to small, community-based nonprofits in Africa, Latin America, and Asia Pacific.  Her personal passions include politics, renewable energy, keeping fragile ecosystems whole, and sustainable economies. From 2004 to early 2008, Anne helped the La Plata Democrats with their public outreach by expanding and strengthening their membership through better communications, fundraising, and local visibility
 
 

Harry Riegle, At-Large
Mr. Riegle moved Durango 13 years ago, and shortly afterwards, he began volunteering at the Alliance; first with the Piano Creek development and then traveling to D.C. to lobby against the Animas-La Plata Project. He has worked mapping roadless areas for the Alliance and the Southern Rockies Forest Network, and chaired the Weminuche Group of the Sierra Club for three years. He has also continued to remain active in the Wild San Juans Task Force. Harry is an active member of the Smart Energy Committee of the Sustainability Alliance of Southwest Colorado (SASCO). Harry earned his Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from Western Michigan University and his Doctor of Optometry degree from Pacific University in Oregon.
