DESCRIPTION:Postponed until Fall 2020\n\nBackcountry Experience is celebrating five years of the Women Outside Adventure Forum\, March 24-26\, 2020. Join us for three nights of storytelling from adventurers\, athletes\, scientists\, and authors. Proceeds benefit the San Juan Citizens Alliance.\n\n\n \nTuesday\, March 24  \n\nAnnette McGivney is the author of the National Outdoor Book Award winning title Pure Land. She is also the Southwest Editor for Backpacker Magazine and her writing regularly appears in Outside\, Arizona Highways\, and The Guardian.\n\nTracy Ross’ essay “The Source of All Things” won the National Magazine Writing Award in 2009 and was later extended into a book of the same name. Tracy is also an editor at Backpacker Magazine who’s assignments have taken her to the wilds of Alaska\, the ski slopes of Iran\, and the most remote reaches of Ecuador.\n \nBooks will be available for sale and signing at the event\, courtesy of Maria’s Bookshop. \n \n6:00 – 8:00 PM at the Powerhouse Science Center\, 1333 Camino Del Rio\, Durango\nDoors open at 5:30\n \nWednesday\, March 25 \n\nNichole Baker is a Durango-based pathologist and mountain biker whose charity Path of Logic is dedicated to enhancing pathology services through education and laboratory procedure improvements in developing nations. Three years ago\, she began integrating her passion of mountain biking to further connect with the people living in rural Uganda.\n \nWhile Kelly Foutz may describe herself as a “child of the outdoors\,” she didn’t grow up as an outdoor kid. Kelly was raised on the Navajo Reservation and later moved to Kirtland\, NM\, where she earned her Degree in Dental Hygiene at San Juan College. It wasn’t until moving to Durango with her young daughter in 2016\, that Kelly discovered outdoor recreation and a passion for climbing. Kelly and her daughter Leah (now 8) began their journey together\, learning new skills and exploring the outdoors together. She was recently sponsored by Backcountry Experience to attend a climbing bootcamp in Yosemite National Park. \n \nEliza Sampey is a professional adventurer\, Doctor of Physical Therapy\, writer\, and nomad. She loves to engage in creative projects combining bikepacking\, mountain biking\, mountain running\, packrafting\, fat biking\, backcountry skiing\, and ski mountaineering. Eliza is coming to the Women Outside stage fresh from a bike-packing trip from Pakistan to Nepal.\n \n\n6:00 – 8:00 PM at the Powerhouse Science Center\, 1333 Camino Del Rio\, Durango\nDoors open at 5:30\n\n \nThursday\, March 26\nDr. Heidi Steltzer is an environmental scientist and explorer. She has sought opportunities to go places others don’t go\, conducting research in the mountains and Arctic. A professor at Fort Lewis College\, Heidi recently made news when she testified before Congress about climate change. Join us for a special presentation about Heidi’s recent work in China\, studying the impacts of climate change on Himalayan snowpack.\n \n6:00 – 8:00 pm Location TBA\n$30\, ticket includes 1 drink plus hors d’oeuvres.
