Please join the San Juan Citizens Alliance in showing our support for BLM’s new public lands rule on Conservation and Landscape Health. The new rule emphasizes the importance of conservation on federal public lands and creates and refines tools to protect wildlife habitat, cultural resources, and ecosystem services.
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) just released its Draft Big Game Resource Management Plan Amendment (plan) which covers 8.3 million surface acres and 4.7 million acres of mineral estate extending to every Colorado BLM Field Office and to every corner of the state. BLM has the opportunity through this planning process to implement landscape-level protections for big game habitat and consider comprehensive updates to its oil and gas program in Colorado.
A cherished landscape gained a measure of new protection this month when Interior Secretary Deb Haaland signed an order creating a 10-mile buffer zone around Chaco Culture National Historical Park that precludes future oil and gas leasing. The decision culminates a yearslong campaign initiated by Puebloan tribes, local Navajo communities, archaeologists, and conservation advocates.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) is now taking public comment on their Draft Colorado Wolf Restoration and Management Plan. They are accepting comments until February 22nd, 2023.
Show your support for EPA’s new rule and tell the agency to do more for our communities and climate.
